ABSN Track Admissions Process
As you prepare to apply to Mercer’s Second Degree ABSN track, there are a few steps to complete as part of our admissions process. We offer multiple application deadlines each year, giving you flexibility as you plan. Students targeting a Fall start must submit their materials by July 15. Prospective spring semester students must apply by November 1. If you are targeting a summer start, apply by March 15.

1. Talk with an Enrollment Counselor
Before you apply, we want to get to know you and your goals! Mercer’s ABSN track is a significant commitment of time and effort, and we want to make sure you are well-positioned for success. After you fill out the form here on our website, you will get a call from an enrollment counselor dedicated to serving the needs of our Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing track applicants.
In your initial phone call, you will discuss why you want to be a nurse, your academic qualifications and career goals, financial considerations, and next steps. Throughout the process, your counselor will be your main point of contact.

2. Develop Your Academic Plan
The next step in the admissions process is to put together an academic plan listing the steps you will need to take to qualify for application and enrollment to the Mercer ABSN track. Steps include reviewing your transcripts to determine any requirements you will need to meet, as well as any prerequisite courses you will need to take.
Additionally, your enrollment counselor will work with you to set a specific start date in Mercer’s accelerated nursing track, in May, August, or January.
3. Complete the Prerequisite Course Requirements
To set you up for success in Mercer’s 12-month ABSN track, we ask that all required prerequisites and GPA requirements be completed before enrollment. Successfully completing these indicates that you have a solid foundation in multiple essential subjects necessary to succeed as a student enrolled in the track.

4. Take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
To be admitted into Mercer’s accelerated nursing track, you must take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) and achieve a minimum composite score of 76 or higher. This standardized test is used to determine how prepared a student is to enter the nursing field.
5. Submit Your Nursing School Application
Once you are ready to apply for nursing school, you can submit your application online, along with your:
- Official transcripts from the college or university you previously attended
- Prerequisite completion form
- Resume and admissions essay
